Local High School students visited Stan State to learn about English, Writing and Creative Media career paths while experiencing a behind-the-scenes look at the Signal.
Pitman High School visited on Nov. 14 and attended a journalism workshop conducted by the Signal editorial staff, as well as a self guided tour around campus.
The students were also shown the TV studio, which is used by Stan State students in Creative Media, but is also used by the Signal staff for Signal Weekly podcast.
During their time with the Signal they got to put their journalism skills to work. The editorial staff prioritized teaching the students about the newspaper form of journalism and the rules that are included.
The students were split into groups during the workshop and were given different tasks to complete, the winning group of certain tasks given a prize of a Signal t-shirt.
They constructed leads, endings, interviewed fellow students, took pictures and created headlines that were all used in this article.
