The last academic senate meeting of the semester ran smoothly, with a special gift that came in the form of a new minor being passed.
Chair Dorsey at today’s meeting brought back the Data Science minor as a second reading item and for a vote from the senate.
Dorsey talked about the importance of this minor and why it is needed as an option for students here at Stan State.
“It’s important our students receive training on data interpretation,” Dorsey said. “Not just computer science would benefit, but students in business and other areas.”
He brought up the importance of how this minor being added would not require any additional faculty hiring so it is not demanding in that regard. Before the senate moved on to a vote on this they talked about rice pudding and greek yogurt.

With Minerva having to call order back to the topic to conduct the vote. Although results were shared in the zoom meeting chat, the minor did pass.
Guest of the senate Ramika Govergezy Badelboo did make an announcement at the start of the meeting to inform students that they can go to the learning commons to receive tutoring tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided.

ASI President Eryka Lepper, said her final goodbye to the senate and reflected back on her time here at Stan State as she finishes her final semester.
She reminisced back on the great memories she has had on campus and will forever be grateful for this experience.
“Shaped me, supported me and gave me a community I will forever be grateful for,” Lepper said.
She ended her speech by saying, “It has been an honor to lead and learn,” she said. “President Lepper is signing off.”
Not only did ASI President Eryka Lepper sign off for the semester, so did the senators. Academic Senate will resume on January 27th.
