TURLOCK – The men’s and women’s track teams each had an outstanding day Saturday at the 2013 Stanislaus Open Invitational.
First place finishes for the men’s included: the 1500-meter run, shot put, hammer throw and pole vault, while the women took first in the 100-meter run, 100-meter hurdle, high jump, long jump, triple jump and the javelin.
In the men’s 1500, three Warriors finished in the top three, with senior Terrence Ellis in first with a time of 4 minutes, 7.40 seconds, graduate Dawson Vorderbruegge in second with 4:10.40 and junior Dean Alley in third with 4:12.60.
Junior Joshua Uikilifi won both the shot put (48- 3 1/2) and hammer throw (172- 10) competitions, and finished third in discus. Senior Caleb Monticalvo won the pole vault with a height of 15- 7. Junior Kyle Maxwell finished second in the event with, vaulting 15- 1.
The women’s team had just as much success at the meet.
The top finishers in the long jump were all Warriors, with junior Andrea Severson taking first with a jump of 16- 11 1/4 . Senior Rio Schwalbach jumped 16- 3 1/4 for second place, junior Tessa Gonzales jumped 15- 6 1/4 for third and senior Jessica Counts finished fourth with a jump of 15- 6.
Severson also took first in the 100 hurdle with a time of 15.70 seconds.
Senior Adrianna Blanco won the 100-meter run (12.80) and sophomore Channing Wilson won the javelin with a distance of 131- 5.
Schwalbach and Counts were the top two finishers in the triple jump and the high jump. Schwalbach took first in the triple jump with 38- 8 3/4, while Counts jumped 32- 10 1/2.
Counts and Schwalbach both jumped 4- 9 3/4 in the high jump to finish on the top of the event.
Coach Diljeet Taylor spoke highly of her athletes after the meet.
“The team is doing really well for this early in the year and I am really proud of them for all their hard work,” said Taylor. “This upcoming weekend, I anticipate even better performances in all the events.”
The Warriors compete next at the Chico Multi–Events Classic on Thursday and Friday in Chico.
