Do you constantly find yourself wondering where all your money went? Become more financially responsible by attending a Money Management Workshop on March 7 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the California State University, Stanislaus Event Center.
This event will focus on minimizing debt and understanding loan repayment.
Students have come to the realization that being independent and managing their money without their parents is a lot more difficult than they expected.
“I feel like I work so hard, but yet I’m always so broke,” Betsy Plascencia (senior, Communication Studies) said. “It frightens me to think that soon I will have to pay off my school loans.”
The problem many people are encountering is that they spend more than what they earn, leaving them in debt.
The focus has now shifted from spending less to making more.
“I spend more than I save,” Davida Brenda (freshman, English) said.
“I would attend the workshop because it is beneficial for me and my future, especially when I move out and have to deal with financial things without the help of my parents.”
5 Reasons Why People Spend More Than What They Earn
- People can’t say “no,” even when they can’t afford to say “yes.”
- Keeping up with new lifestyle trends.
- Proving self worth.
- Sense of power.
- Plastic doesn’t feel like real money.
People are aware of these reasons, but find it challenging to break away from addicting bad habits.
As an attempt to accommodate for students’s busy schedules, CSU Stanislaus is providing additional Money Management Workshops that focus on investing basics.
This second round of workshops will take place on March 11, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m at the Warrior Conference room, and March 14, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Event Center.
These workshops are beneficial regardless of how well you already manage your money.
“I never spend more than I make, but I’m always looking for new ideas on how I can manage money,” Jason Nascimento (senior, Business) said. “If this workshop provides an insight on money strategies, then yes I would enjoy attending.”
