High heels and pastel-colored skinny jeans lined the two sides of the runway, waiting to catch a glimpse of the latest fashion trends about to hit the catwalk of the Lights, Camera, Fashion senior capstone fashion show project on April 18.
The fashion show featuring hunky-looking cowboys and gals that looked like they had just leaped off of a Cosmopolitan magazine made for a confusing fashion masterpiece.
“We may be a very ag driven area but we all like to be fashionable too,” organizer Michelle Oliver (senior, Communication Studies) said.
The Main Dining Hall at California State University, Stanislaus was converted into a catwalk with brightly-colored paper balls that lined the runway. Women were caught cheating sneak peeks of the models that hid behind stage.
Attendees kept busy waiting for the fashion show to begin by looking over vendor tables filled with bedazzled purses and chunky accessories. Nearly all women had blue raffle tickets slumped over an arm like a bracelet.
Oliver and the rest of her capstone companions including Sara Looney, Macenzie Mogg and Cheryl Hudson balanced on stage in their heels and thanked everyone for coming out to support the show. The proceeds from this capstone project will go towards a charity to fight against cancer.
Once the girls finished opening statements, the country music got louder and louder, and the ambiance of an intimate fashion experience began.
Female models in bright orange skinny jeans and tan strappy heels were followed by males in green plaid and cowboy hats.
Nerves were clearly not a problem for the models and most added a coy wink or a tip of the hat at the end of the runway. Some of the males even shook their groove things, which most of the women seemed to reward with cheers and loud claps.
Two professor models appeared on the runway: Dr. Karen Hartman and Dr. Zachary Gershberg, who both looked smashing in Boot Barn apparel. Dr. Gershberg’s heel-touch jump at the end of the runway snagged a few screams.
The show ended early with a thank you to all of the participating sponsors including Bedazzled, Boot Barn, Christina’s Fine Women’s Clothing and Designs by Donna.
Both bling and cowboy flare were represented well on stage, giving the whole event a “you can be whatever you want to be” feel for the night.
