California State University, Stanislaus’s Warrior Day weekend will be May 10 and 11 in the amphitheater.
This year the main artist performing will be Shwayze, best known for his hit single “Buzzin.”Throughout the event there will be other various forms of entertainment, including house DJ, Dee Jay Izee, and Spanish band Libertad Nortena.
“I am looking forward to hearing Shwayze and dancing to the Spanish band,” Christopher Zepeda (sophomore, Nursing) said.
Warrior Day will be free for all CSU Stanislaus students. Students can pick up their free tickets by 6 p.m. on May 9 in the Warrior Activities Center with a valid Warrior ID card. Guest tickets can be purchased in advanced at the Student Union service desk for $15, or for $20 at the event. There is a limit of two guests per student.
Various activities throughout the day will include a zip line, mechanical bull, bungee jump trampoline, rock wall, slip-n-slide, photo booth, henna and airbrush tattoos.
“I am excited to see what this year’s Warrior Day will bring,” Marvin Hooker, ASI Special Events Coordinator, said. “It is coming back better than before after last year’s incident and we are excited to see how the students respond.”
In an effort to stop binge drinking there will be no alcohol served at the event due to the amount of arrests made during past Warrior Days.
Some students feel stronger about this notion than others.
“Warrior Day from here on out will never be the same, warrior day was a long held tradition that we students took pride in,” Jose Parra (senior, Criminal Justice) said.
“I used to look forward to hanging out with my friends, drinking a few beers and enjoying the good music, but now that administration has taken away a major part of Warrior Day, I will never go back.”
While some students are frustrated by the alcohol ban, others are still excited to attend Warrior Day.
“The tradition continues,” Chris Netniss (senior, Political Science) said.
“Warrior day is back and bigger than ever. Even if there is no alcohol we still are going to party and have a great time.”
