California State University, Stanislaus School of Nursing has received a $240,000 grant funding through the Song-Brown Registered Nurse Education Program. The grant will be available to students through the Nursing master’s program at CSU Stanislaus.
CSU Stanislaus was one of only two nursing programs to receive the full funding, among 18 other applicants. The funding for this program is based on students’ performance on the National Council Licensure Examination.
Senior Nursing student, Navjoth Sandhu, had good words about CSU Stanislaus’s Nursing program and her experience in it.
“The Stanislaus Nursing program is very well-respected in the community,” Sandhu said. “It provides the students with great skills to enter the nursing profession. The instructors are knowledgeable, the program is organized.”
The National Council of State Board of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest.
The Song-Brown program was established in 1973 under California’s health code to increase the number of family physicians to provide much needed medical services.
The program will encourage universities and primary health professionals to provide health care in medically underserved areas.
Also to provide financial support to family practice residency, family nurse practitioners, physician assistant and registered nurses educated programs.
CSU Stanislaus first received this grant in 2009 after being forced to cut the number of admissions from 80 to 50 students in 2008 and has continued to receive it every year since. This grant has helped restore the School of Nursing by bringing the number of students from 50 to 60 each year, helping students passionate in nursing reach their goals.
Sandhu added that her own decision to become a nurse was both emotional and practical.
“I decided to become a nurse due to my passion for caring for individuals, the power that nurses have on individuals’ lives to bring positive change, and also job security, and flexibility to work in various environments.”
