College intramural sports are an incredible way to stay fit and make friends while attending school at California State University, Stanislaus. But what exactly are college intramural sports and how are they different from other college sports teams?
Here’s what you need to know. Intramurals are an organization of sports teams created and run by students who seek the opportunity to play sports. Those who participate in intramurals range in age, ability, and gender. These sports teams allow students to play a sport they enjoy without trying out for college teams.
Intramurals are designed for everyone to have fun but still have a competitive edge. It is easy to get involved and learn about intramurals here at CSU Stanislaus. Just visit the University Student Union and register to be involved.
This season will begin Sunday, Feb. 24. Each student can sign up for one team (men’s, women’s or co-ed) for each sport. The cost to play intramurals this year is $10 per player. Intramurals Spring 2013 sports will consist of: basketball, outdoor and indoor soccer, volleyball, flag football and dodgeball.
Team captains may sign up their team or players can join teams online at www.imleagues.com. All teams must be signed up by the registration date for that sport. If an individual does not have a team, he or she may sign up as a free agent.
Students at Stanislaus look forward for the opportunity to play Intramurals all year long. The games are a way for students to detach themselves from busy work.
“After a long day of schoolwork, I always look forward to intramurals because it offers a noncompetitive friendly environment,” Frankie Pineda (senior, Psychology) said. “Not only does intramurals offer a great time with friends and family, but it serves as a connection to our campus. For many graduates, the only thing that keeps them coming back to our beautiful campus is intramurals.”
Involvement with intramurals gives students the chance to not only play sports that are enjoyable, but to stay in shape and active with friends.
“Intramurals let you relive the sports you once were involved in during high school, and the opportunity to play together as a team,” Chris Netniss (junior, Criminal Justice) said.
The goal of the Intramural Sports Program is to promote lifetime skills through the venue of sports that offers meaning beyond that of a win or a loss. It is an opportunity to strive and work together with friends and family.
