Turlock businesses are providing opportunities for students to donate or sell their used goods.
Located on 126 W. Main Street, Ritzy Ragz and Thingz is a high-end consignment shop offering designer clothes and accessories.
Anyone interested in selling clothes can stop by on Tuesdays or make an appointment. Ritzy Ragz and Thingz will credit the consigner 40 percent of the item’s final sale price, and provide an option of store credit or check by mail. All clothes must be on hangers, as well as wrinkle and stain-free.
“We would love to have more college students visit Ritzy Ragz,” owner Jennifer Horn said.
“We have started a 15 percent discount for students with a college ID.”
In order to stay true to its unique sense of style, Ritzy Ragz and Thingz does not typically accept clothing from stores such as Wal-Mart and Target. Customers are greatly encouraged to bring in name brand clothes that are not commonly found in the Central Valley.
“We love vintage pieces and unique items,” Horn said.
“We like to stick with the criteria, ‘unique, fashionable, flirty and fun.’”
Horn’s love for vintage and fashion, as well as helping the environment, is one of the reasons she took over Ritzy Ragz and Thingz in 2004. The business started in Modesto and then expanded to its Turlock location in 2007.
“Recycling items is great for the environment and consignment offers items that most times you can’t find anywhere else,” Horn said.
“We encourage everyone to shop local and support small businesses.”
Besides clothing, Ritzy Ragz and Thingz also sells other accessories such as handbags, jewelry, shoes and furniture. Customers can stay up to date on monthly sales by joining the Facebook page, “Ritzy Ragz & Thingz – Turlock” or signing up at www.ritzyragz.com.
Another company that promotes green living is Cal-Green Recycling, which is located on 2474 Industrial Rowe in Turlock. Cal-Green Recycling accepts old or broken cell phones, televisions, printers, laptops and other similar items free of charge by drop-off or scheduled pick-up.
Cal-Green Recycling employs the services of the Department of Defense in order to clear personal information from items that are disposed. More information can be found online at www.cal-greenrecycling.net or by calling 209-668-1738. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
