TURLOCK-Warrior’s baseball began their season against Western Oregon this weekend by loosing their first series of the season with a win Friday (6-5) and a double-header loss on Saturday (4-0, 5-4).
The series started off strong going into an extra inning with a standout performance from seniors second baseman Justin Charles as well as pitcher Bryan Lemon who received the win for Stanislaus.
Lemon had a strong performance, pitching six and two-thirds innings. Charles had a sacrifice fly, two RBIs, including the game winning RBI occurring in the bottom of the 10th inning, and scored a run in the bottom of the third.
“We came out energized and played good as a team, and were excited to get the big win” said Charles.
Both of the Saturday’s games resulted in a loss for the Warriors. Though the Warriors suffered a loss in game two, senior starting pitcher Rafael Vasquez pitched into the eighth inning, only giving up one earned run and six hits, while striking out five batters. Senior centerfielder Craig Beevers contributed with two hits.
The last game of the series started off shaky as the Warriors were down 4-0 until the bottom of the seventh inning when four runs were scored to tie up the game with the Wolves scoring the final run in the top of the ninth. Sophomore third baseman Skippy Ferreria, juniors catcher Andrew Graves and shortstop Matt Chaidez each had a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Stanislaus’s next series is this weekend Friday at Fresno Pacific and Saturday at home with first pitch at 2p.m.
