POMONA/ARCATA – The Warrior men lost to the fifth-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Broncos (69-45) on Thursday, and again to the Humboldt State Jacks (87-84) on Saturday in overtime.
The tough Broncos squad defeated the Warriors in Pomona behind Broncos’ senior guard Mitchel Anderson’s double-double. He scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory.
“They’re a tough opponent because of their length and athleticism,” said Stanislaus guard Clinton Tremelling (sophomore). “They play well as a team and don’t make costly mistakes.” This was obvious in the turnover department, where the Warriors turned the ball over 17 times compared to the Broncos seven.
Tremelling, along with senior forward Ray Mitchell, each had nine points to lead the Warriors.
Saturday’s loss to Humboldt was much tougher pill to swallow. The Warriors lost a tight game in overtime by three points. It was a game that saw the team shoot nearly 50% from three-point range and had five players score in double figures.
Senior guard Marcus Walters scored a team-high 24 points and had a team-high of nine rebounds. Juniors forward Nick Hodge and guard Marcellus Pullum scored 12 points each, while junior guard Sam Marcus and Mitchell each added 11.
The Warrior’s hit the road this weekend with games on Thursday and Saturday at Sonoma State and San Francisco State with tip off at 7p.m.
