Women stay undefeated
Warriors visited Carson and took down Cal State Dominguez Hills 4-0 last Friday.
The Warriors were led by senior Karenee Demery who scored 2 early goals that made the game difficult for Cal State Dominguez Hills. Demery’s goals came 1 and 4 minutes into the match.
Keeping with the trend of scoring early, the Warriors scored just 3 minutes into the second half when sophomore Sabrina Williamson put the Warriors up 4-0. The goal came off a pass from Demery. The Toros added to their misery when they scored a goal on themselves 17 minutes into the first half.
On Sunday Demery continued to score as she netted the only goal for the Warriors who tied Cal State L.A. 1-1.
The Warriors took the lead early in the second half but were unable to secure the win as the Golden Eagles netted the game tying goal with 41 seconds left in regulation. Warriors remain unbeaten with a record of 10-0-2.
Demery, the nation’s scoring leader, scored her fifteenth goal of the season but ended her 4 straight game streak scoring multiple goals.
Men’s Soccer Falls Twice
The Warriors lost in overtime last Friday to Cal State Dominguez Hills 4-3 after Jose Ramirez scored 2 second half goals to force overtime.
Sophomore Jose Ramirez scored the second goal for the Warriors in the fifty-ninth minute when he headed in the ball off a pass from Carlos Gavino. Ramirez then scored the tying goal 4 minutes later.
Unfortunately the comeback could not be finished as Alejandro Covarrubias of Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the winner 5 minutes into overtime. The loss moved the Warriors record to 4-6-1 on the season.
Sunday the Warriors fell to Cal State L.A. 1-0 on a first half goal by Tobias Tobrant that snuck by CSU Stanislaus goalkeeper Clint Long.
Long shined in the game as the goalie faced 10 shots on goal, stopping 9. After giving up the only goal of the game in the seventeenth minute, he kept the Warriors in the game giving them a chance to win.
The second straight loss for the Warriors dropped their record to 4-7-1 on the season. Both Warrior teams are back in action as they visit Cal State Monterey Bay (Oct. 18) then at San Francisco State (Oct. 20).
