The warmer temperatures and sunshine signal that spring is well on its way, and with it comes the usual budding of new fashion trends alongside the rebirth of those forgotten favorites. Shed your winter layers and get your closet ready by integrating some of this season’s biggest styles.
The midi skirt
What is it? It’s the hybrid offspring of the mini (thigh-high) and maxi (ankle/floor length) skirt. The fit-and-flare tea length (hits below the knee, yet above the ankle) skirt is huge this season. Pair up this effortlessly elegant skirt with a crop top for a twist on the classic, 1950s skirt.
The Mule
This spring 90s fashion trend is back and back with a vengeance. The mule, a stylish, slip-on heel is the must-have shoe of the season. The best part? It’s versatility. Wedge or stiletto? Fabric or leather? Solid color or print?
The endless style options and the understated chicness of the mule make it easy to transition any look from day to night.
Pleats
The knife pleats were seen throughout Givenchy’s and Proenza Schouler’s S/S 14 collections. Wear the playful, feminine design by pairing a pleated skirt with a simple, white tee for a laid-back outfit.
Floral prints
Spring simply would not be complete without flowers, right? Well, the same should apply to what’s in your closet. Add something fun, feminine and flirty to your wardrobe with this trend.
Athletic wear
If you prefer to wear t-shirts and sweatpants over cashmere sweaters and pencil skirts, this trend is for you. Show off your sporty-side by layering a varsity jacket with skinny jeans for a casual, yet sophisticated feel.
See-through
Lace and mesh are all the rage this season. In small, moderate doses, a transparent lacy hemline or mesh sleeve can be sheer genius.
Fringe
Don’t be afraid – fringe isn’t made exclusively for rockstars and hippies. Incorporate this newly favored trim by swapping out your old cross-body bag for a fringe purse (it will be perfect for Coachella).
