Few CSU Stanislaus basketball players have put together resumés as impressive as Lauren Godde’s.
Her 1,207 points places her fifth in Warrior history, and throw in a seventh-best 757 rebounds and you have yourself an amazing career.
Godde sat down for an interview in KCSS’s “Mac and Mo Show” to talk about her career:
You have had an amazing career. Do you ever look back and say, “Wow?”
Oh, now more than ever because I am done. It’s been a long four years. I’ve been playing since I was five.
Your stats are incredibly eye-popping; do you feel that your game is really well-rounded?
It’s funny that you say that because I get crap from my coach all the time. [She says] that I don’t play good defense.
The stats are surprising though; I had no idea I was in the record books for all that.
You have played with your sister, Erin, your entire career. Is there a strong rivalry between you? Who would win one-on-one?
Always. I have to do better than she does. I would win; she is smarter but I am definitely more physical.
How does your game compare to hers?
I would say I’m more of an offensive player, and she’s more of a defensive player. If we were one person, we would be really good.
What was your biggest game or basket?
I don’t remember my first basket but in my first game, I went to shoot a three and a girl blocked it into the stands. That was my first experience.
The biggest game was against Dominican. I think we lost, but I had 39 points.
Biggest loss?
Last year against Cal State East Bay, there were two seconds left and the game was tied. I was fouled, so I got to shoot free throws. I just had to make one and I missed both.”
What led to the 2013 turnaround?
Our team chemistry was really good. This is the best season we have had. It was my senior year and I just wanted to have fun.
Last year, we had eight girls, and it was really tough. Our coach went around campus asking people to play.
How is the team going to do next year? Who should we watch out for?
Oh, this was definitely a rebuilding year – we had nine freshman. They are only going up from here.
This is the beginning of what’s to come. [Watch] pretty much everybody. They have so much room to improve.
