Associated Students Incorporated’s current President, Mariam Salameh, is up for reelection for the 2014-2015 school year.
Current ASI Vice President Marvin Hooker will team up with Mariam during elections in hopes to continue their journey of progress and work with the ASI Board of the Directors, ASI Staff and campus community.
“We are dedicated, experienced, passionate and prideful student leaders that have proven that our number one priority is to represent the student voice,” Salameh said. “We are committed to bettering the college experience of California State University, Stanislaus students.”
Salameh’s successes include both internal ASI issues and external student issues.
Student issue accomplishments include the extension of hours at the Vasche Library, which now closes at 12 a.m. instead of the prior 9 p.m. time.
Also under Salameh’s term, the unit cap has increased from 10 to 12 units for first-pass registration and the discussion of reducing parking fees on campus has been revisted.
Salameh has helped to implement the ASI Giving Back Scholarship for CSU Stanislaus students, starting Fall 2014.
Other successes include ASI budget visibility, multicultural subsidy funds for students and the expansion of student government visibility to better represent the students of CSU Stanislaus.
Mariam started her journey in leadership early on.
“I always have had the passion to get involved,” Salameh said.
“I was involved with student government through my time in high school and loved every moment of my great experience.”
If elected, Mariam and Marvin, now referred to as M&M, have many goals.
The pair wishes to continue working towards increasing the number of class sections offered in order to raise graduation rates.
The pair will also continue moving towards reducing parking fees, increasing library services available to students and strengthening the relationships between the students and the university.
Students can vote in Warrior Activities Center from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 28 and 29.
