After getting swept this past weekend by Sonoma State, the Warrior softball team has now lost 10 games within a three-run margin.
Amidst their season worst eight-game losing streak the Warriors offense has struggled heavily. Despite many close games the Warrior’s offense has been outscored 45-20 over the eight-game stretch.
Last Friday, the Warriors made the trip to Sonoma to take on Sonoma State for the first time this season. Both teams suited up for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, but it was Sonoma who collected the home-sweep of the Warriors.
The first game on Friday was an intense battle that saw Stanislaus surrender the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh. Ultimately, the Seawolves earned the 2-1 victory in the bottom of the ninth.
The offense for the Warriors only collected four hits during the opener, three extra-base hits and the last a single for senior Brianna Nicholson. Junior Melissa Robles and senior Amy Droege each connected for a double while Senior Brittney Rickles collected a triple and scored the only run.
In the night cap, the Warriors fell 7-2 as the offense continued to struggle, only garnering three hits. Already trailing 7-0 going into the sixth inning, the Warriors scored twice, with Rickles scoring again. Junior Jessica Varady scored the other run.
The Warriors suffered the same fate on Saturday, losing both games, adding to their season worst eight-game losing streak.
The opener on Saturday saw the Warriors fall behind early to Sonoma State by five runs after three innings. Stanislaus’s offense responded with six hits and two runs of their own, but it was too late, and they fell 6-2.
The final game against Sonoma state was just like the first game against the Seawolves as the Warriors could not hold onto the lead in the seventh inning and suffered the sweep, losing 5-4.
After Sonoma State tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with two runs, the Warrior offense snagged the lead, courtesy of freshman Cassidy Duke. Duke sent the pitch into right field for her second hit of the day, but the Warriors could not hold the lead and suffered another close loss.
The Warriors are back in action this Friday and Saturday when they travel to UC San Diego for another two day doubleheader. Stanislaus’s next home game comes Wednesday, April 2 when Hawaii Pacific invades Turlock.
