The Spring semester has kicked off nicely with some new changes in Intramural Sports. Intramural Sports has now moved its location to the Student Recreation Center (SRC).
Intramural Sports at California State University, Stanislaus are offering four different sports for the spring. The sports are basketball (arena), outdoor soccer, flag football and volleyball.
The deadline to sign up for basketball is Feb. 17, for outdoor soccer is Feb. 18, for flag football is March 25 and for volleyball is March 24. The deadlines for each of these dates is 4 P.M.
Each sport is $15 per person to play, and you must be a student, staff member, faculty or an alumnus of CSU Stanislaus. To register, sign up at www.imleagues.com.
You can dream up your own team, connect with an existing team or sign up as a free agent. During captain’s meetings, the captains from each team of every sport will pick up the free agents.
“I love playing volleyball, I haven’t been able to play on a team since high school,” Sara Yakoub (senior, Liberal Studies) said. “It is a great way to stay active and meet new people.”
Intramurals Sports are not just about playing sports; there are a lot of opportunities to get involved.
There are referee positions that need to be filled for flag football in March this semester. The on-site manager positions have been filled for Intramural Sports.
To apply for an official position for any of the sports, log on to CSU Stanislaus’s Human Resources website, www.csustan.edu/hr.
Jake Regal, the SRC Coordinator, spoke about plans for training referees, “We will start having a weekly training session for each of the sports for the officiating crew so that they can be trained well throughout the semester and make the correct calls.”
The SRC has already seen a lot of participants coming in and signing up for intramural sports versus when it was run by the student union.
Intramural Sports are about being recreational and competitive. They also help to promote an active and healthy lifestyle to those who are participating. CSU Stanislaus offers both all-male, all-female and co-ed teams.
