As of February 14, Stan State Warriors are back on campus and are excited to attend face-to-face classes. Safety measures have been taken to make sure everyone on campus feels comfortable. Protocols such as daily screenings are required, daily screenings are checked when entering buildings and classrooms. 

Sage Whiter (junior, Criminal Justice) explained how she was excited to be back in class to have discussions and interact with other students.

“I was homeschooled so online classes are really easy for me, but I prefer them in person so you’re not by yourself,” Whiter said.

When asked if she had any concerns, Whiter said that she believes the campus was doing well when thinking of staff and students safety.  “[Stan State] has been doing really well. People have masks on, there’s sanitizer everywhere, and we have the daily screenings.”

After two years of online classes, nearly all the students who were interviewed expressed that they are happy to be back. Many explained the joy and relief that they could socialize and leave the house.

Machel Mirasol (freshman, Pre-Nursing), was one of the students who strongly prefers campus life. It is his first semester back on campus and he is ready to socialize with friends. Before this semester, he explained that he only saw his friends through social media.

“Professors are more comfortable when they have an audience and not just little boxes on Zoom,” he added.

Although Mirasol prefers face-to-face classes, he also recognized some benefits to a virtual environment.

“I also like recorded lectures so I can study it again,” he explained.

Jakota Ludwick, (freshman, Political Science) feels as if it is an adjustment being back, but also feels as if it is great to see a lively campus. Like Whiter, he is appreciative of the safety measures being taken on campus.

“I feel confident in not only the schools ability to go back in-person, but also everybody else’s ability one to be COVID safe,” he said.

Ludwick is also enthusiastic about experiencing campus life, such as socializing, joining clubs, attending events, and keeping up with the return of sports. 

Jacob Gacs (freshman, History) has been living in college dorms since summer of 2021. He has experienced campus life through different stages. Gacs attended some in-person classes in the fall, but few people were on campus. Compared to this semester, campus life is much different.

“I really enjoy it because I’m a student with disabilities and prefer a classroom environment,” he explained.
