In the fall 2022 semester,  a new workspace will be made available to the campus community—the Warrior Fab Lab. The Warrior Fab Lab is essentially a makerspace that specifically focuses on digital resources. This makerspace will be located inside Stanislaus State’s library in room 259 on the second floor. 
“The space is designed for a hands-on approach to cross-disciplinary studies and community building through a combination of analog and digital processes,” explained Jake Weigel, director of Warrior Fab Lab.
This fabrication lab is intended to help promote innovation, entrepreneurship, social justice and community engagement among the campus, while looking for solutions to solve challenges on a global scale. Some common equipment that will be included in the Warrior Fab lab are 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser cutters, button makers, a large photo printer, vinyl cutter and CNC mills/routers. 
According to Getting Started with Fab Labs, “In educational settings, rather than relying on a fixed curriculum, learning happens in an authentic, engaging, personal context, one in which students go through a cycle of imagination, design, prototyping, reflection, and iteration as they find solutions to challenges or bring their ideas to life.”
The Fab Lab can be used for many outputs and activities.
“The Fab Lab can be used for design, prototyping, manufacturing, visualization/didactics, presentations, activism, digitization/archiving and virtual reality,” Weigel said.
Some activities that may be held in the Warrior Fab Lab include informational sessions, workshops, club and organization meetings, classes, research, inter/trans-disciplinary projects, innovation, entrepreneurship, regional partnerships and open labs for personal projects. However, the Fab Lab is not a mass production facility.  
The goal of this makerspace is to educate students, staff, faculty, and community members in a welcoming and inclusive environment and actively engage in equitable access to technology. The Fab Lab is meant to help people consider how environmental, economic, social, and other forms of sustainability may be addressed in cross-disciplinary studies and projects.
In terms of innovative solutions, this makerspace aims to implement innovative processes to help rethink problems and solutions for the Central Valley and beyond. The last goal of this project has to do with sustainable operation and growth. This project will build a community with critical mass around the Warrior Fab Lab with flexibility to adjust to challenges and “customize” the lab for Stan State and the areas surrounding it.
