There is a saying that laughter is the best medicine. What better way to destress and wind down than by attending a comedy show – even better if it’s at Stanislaus State. The Warrior Grill showcased “Live at the Grill: Comedic Relief” Oct. 20, and encouraged all students to swing by, grab a bite and have some laughs.
The event was put on by the University Student Center’s Code Red Entertainment.
Milleina Ruiz, ASI Programs Graduate Assistant, said that the purpose of the event was, “to bring fun entertainment into the Student Center and to provide an opportunity for students to relax, laugh, and enjoy a fun program during their college experience.”
The event featured three comedians; James Mwaura and Jalisa Robinson, hosted by comedian Ashley Monique. They were contracted to come onto campus to crack some jokes as well as interact with the audience during their time on stage.
Aly Bradley (junior, Liberal Studies) found out about the event through the school social media and even though she came in with no expectations about how the event would turn out she was pleasantly surprised.
“After I felt great,” she said, “it was a really nice way to unwind and relax and listen to some other perspectives through their comedy.”
Modesto Junior College student Victor Lopez (sophomore, Criminal Justice), was at the show. He found out about the event through his friends who are currently Stan State students and invited him to see what it was all about. Lopez plans to transfer to Stan State and said these types of events are what he is looking forward to when he transfers.
When asked if the Stan State community can expect to see more events like this in the future, Ruiz gave a resounding yes.
“We love bringing different performers to our campus,” she said, “so please, expect more Live at the Grill events!”
