The first opening track meet for the Warriors was hosted at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium this past weekend. This meet hosted roughly 400 athletes.
This past weekend was a great start for the Warriors track and field, especially for Gary Randolph. Randolph gathered great success over the weekend earning himself a spot on the National watch-list for hammer throw, shot put, and discus. In hammer throw, Randolph finished in third place throwing 184 feet and 1 inch. During the afternoon shot put, tossing 54-10 3/4 inches to take the overall win. In the last heat with discus, Randolph finished third in throwing 162-9.
For the Warrior women, the top racer was none other than Kyrah Vaughn who ran the winning 1,500 distance time of 4:52:52. The top hammer thrower’s were Lindsay McKee and Krystal Alnas.
McKee finished in first place with the distance of 174-11, and closely finishing in second was teammate Alnas with a 168-3. In the long jump, Cierra Booz placed second with the long leap of 16 feet, 5 inches. Pole vaulter Lea Butler also took second with a cleared leap of 10 feet, 11 3/4 inches.
