California State University, Stanislaus will be teaming up with the Turlock Chamber of Commerce once again for this year’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration with activities for kids and families scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Attracting more than 200,000 people over the span of 24 years, the spectacle had been an ongoing tradition for the community until it’s eventual cancellation in 2009 due to a lack of funding and sponsorship.
But after a five year hiatus, the Fantastic Fourth fireworks have returned to the CSU Stanislaus campus and citizens all around the local community could not be more excited.
“We’re very happy to be partnering with the Chamber to bring this tradition back to campus,” campus president Joseph Sheley said. “We’ll be celebrating our nation’s history while at the same time providing the community a great place to have fun. In the past we’ve referred to ourselves as a hidden gem. With this event and others like it, I think you can get rid of ‘hidden.’ In still challenging budget times, we are committed to showing the community that this is their University.”
While the event will be alcohol-free, the public is welcome to bring a picnic lunch or visit one of the various food trucks that will be available on campus.
Sharon Silva, CEO of the chamber, is very eager for the renewed collaboration with CSU Stanislaus.
“We’re really excited to partner with the University because it’s such a wonderful venue,” Silva said. “It’s great to bring the event back to campus, where it started decades ago.”
Silva expects the city to provide music and craft vendors for the event, along with bounce houses and face painting for the children; however, details are still in the process of resolution.
