This week shining bright in the Warrior spotlight, Tyler Murphy swings high and low with an interesting story of recovery and commitment.
Like an unstoppable force meeting an immovable rock, Tyler Murphy’s lifelong goal to play baseball in college was cut short one night on the waters of Lake Tulloch.
Murphy was out on the lake one night in August of 2013 hanging out with some friends, and in a split second his life was altered from everything being good fun to being caught under a boat.
He suffered several lacerations to his right hand and right leg in the horrific nightmare of what Tyler described as a “freak accident.” However, even through the pain, Murphy could only think of how he would recover to get back in the game.
What passion!
Murphy took a year and a half off for recovery before returning to the baseball world at St. Mary’s College. After a year of redshirting, he soon returned to the mound for the Stanislaus Cardinals Babe Ruth team in 2014.
Murphy soon demonstrated his passion for the game at the opener for the 2015 season for California State University, Stanislaus with an amazing five-inning pitching effort against Academy of Art University.
Murphy records six strike outs and allowing only one run and seven hits in the Warriors’ home opener 12-1 win.
Recently, against Holy Names, Murphy records five strike outs and again only allowed one run and three hits.
Murphy uses a brace during his games to help with recovery. “It’s not the most comfortable thing,” Murphy said. “But I am getting there, just playing through it.
“I want to keep winning with this team and see where it takes me, but right now keep winning and go for the CCAA Championship.”
