California State University, Stanislaus recently had a 13.4 percent increase in first-time freshmen applications according to the university website. This is the highest increase by any school in the CSU system.
The university also experienced a 5.7 percent increase in applications from students attempting to transfer to CSU Stanislaus. This was the sixth highest in the CSU system.
Over the last two years, the campus has received a 22.8 percent increase in freshmen applications.Freshman application were 6,973 in 2014, compared to 6,148 from 2013.
Noelia Gonzalez, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid CSU Stanislaus, is excited by the university’s recent success.
“I think it’s great,” Gonzalez said. “It really shows that prospective students view our campus as an opportunity for higher education and a gateway to success.”
Gonzalez voiced the reasons why she feels there was an application increase.
“I believe we’ve had a significant increase due to increased outreach efforts,” Gonzalez said. “More high school and transfer students are recognizing the value of a CSU Stanislaus education, and we have had a lot of great recognition in the media.”
Gonzalez also feels this will contribute to the economic growth in the community.
“I think it reflects very positively,” Gonzalez said. “CSU Stanislaus educates many of the people who will become leaders in our region. We are vital to the economic and cultural health of our surrounding communities, so it is heartening to know that more young people are considering us.”
With more students applying to the university, some may be concerned about more rigorous requirements for potential students. Gonzalez doesn’t see that being an issue for the present.
“As of today, I do not see any changes in the general admission requirements. Students still need to meet base line CSU standards and all CSU Stanislaus application deadlines,” Gonzalez said.
