California State University, Stanislaus announced the winners of Homecoming king and queen at the end of the men’s basketball game on Feb. 6.
After a week of numerous homecoming challenges for participating Greeks and the athletic department, the wait to find out who won the 2015 title of Homecoming King and Queen was expected to be over. To the audience’s surprise, there was a tie for both King and Queen.
“I thought the anxiety would be over with by now,” Kaitlyn Ireland (senior, Communication Studies) said. “I wanted this to be over already but now I have to wait another week to find out who really won.”
Ireland was one of the four winners. She represented the Athletics department.
Aside from Ireland, the other winners were Kevin Zapien representing Kappa Sigma, Elizabeth Carrillo representing Phi Sigma Sigma and Edgar Tejeda from Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE).
“I thank all of my brothers for supporting me throughout this week,” Edgar Tejeda (senior, Business) said. “Representing TKE was a big weight on my shoulders because I am one guy representing one big fraternity. That’s a lot of pressure and I couldn’t have made it this far without all of them helping out.”
As a result of this tie, many students took to social media to express their concern and disappointment.
One king and queen will be decided next week through one more challenge that has not yet been announced.
