A unique twist on a college-favorite dish, pizza, is coming to Turlock. Family owned and operated Kraving Kebab Pizza is looking to open in downtown Turlock during December of this year.
Kebab pizza is a blend of Italian and Turkish cuisine with established popularity in Europe. Kebab meat comes either in pork or chicken and is topped with specialty Kebab sauce. The meat is served over a thin New York-style crust with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese.
Ashour Shamoon is the owner of Kraving Kebob Pizza and a Turlock resident. He has a personal connection with California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) because his brother in-law, George Youkhana, is a current student there.
“It’s our family business and I’ve been helping them since the first day they opened in Modesto, three years ago” Youkhana said.
Shamoon grew up working in many local pizzerias and never thought he would open up one of his own until he tasted his first Kebab Pizza in Skovde, Sweden during a vacation with his wife. It was unlike anything other pizza he had tasted before, and something he could not get enough of during his stay in Sweden.
His inspiration led him to open up a location first in Modesto, and now in Turlock. Items on the menu include New York-style pizza combined with Mediterranean dishes. The most popular items are the Kebab Pizza, the Kebab plate, jalapeño poppers, wings, falafels and shawarma.
“It has a college atmosphere where they can gather and enjoy good food while watching sports and having cold beer in our lounge seating area. We also will have indoor and outdoor seating,” Youkhana said. “Our core values are offering quality food and excellent customer service.”
Kraving Kebab Pizza’s is located at 217 S. Golden State Blvd. in Turlock and is also located in Modesto at 2031 Yosemite Blvd. To learn more about Kraving Kebab Pizza, visit www.kravingkebabpizza.com or call 209-524-1985.
