StanFlix is one of the new ideas the University Student Union (USU) & Associated Students Inc. (ASI) have come up with to ensure this school year will be enjoyable for the students at California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State).
StanFlix provides free premiere movie showings to Stan State students three times in the semester, showcasing movies prior to them being released on DVD for the public.
The event kicked off this past month with the showing of “Jurassic World.” It resulted in a successful turnout and excitement from the students at Stan State. The next showing will be “Pitch Perfect 2” on Thursday, Sept. 24. “Insidious: Chapter 3” will be shown Thursday, Oct. 22 to get students in the Halloween spirit.
The movies have already been chosen and the upcoming StanFlix events are planned for this semester, but that doesn’t mean students’ suggestions won’t be heard for future semesters.  
USU Daily Events Coordinator Vanessa Lopez encourages students to suggest movies and voice their opinions on what movies they are eager to see. 
“It would be nice to hear students input… as long as the movie isn’t rated R, other than that if the students want to see it they can contact me,” Lopez said.
Students are advised to keep an eye out throughout the semester for future movie showings as well as other cool events happening on campus. The movies will be advertised around campus and through email reminders to keep students informed.
StanFlix is one the many entertaining events USU & ASI provide for students throughout the semester to just kickback and have a good time.
The movie showings will all take place on a Thursday night to help students relax after a stressful week of school. 
“It’s a good time to just relax and end your week on a good note,” Lopez said.
The event is specific to Stan State students, but outside friends are welcome to enjoy the movie.
Films are shown in the grass area at the quad. Blankets and lawn-chairs are encouraged to enjoy the movies, and complimentary popcorn is provided courtesy of USU.
