Associated Students Inc. (ASI) is throwing its annual StanFest weekend that brings fun and entertainment for the students at California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) and the Turlock community.
StanFest weekend kicks off Saturday Sept. 19 with the StanFest concert for Stan State students featuring 3Oh!3 and Secondhand Serenade. Sunday brings the free-admission StanFest Carnival to the Turlock community.
Free tickets for the concert are now available at the Warrior Activity Center front desk to the first 900 students. Once they run out, the general admission tickets will cost $15 for pre-sale and $20 at the door.
This year, ASI created a theme for StanFest, labeling it a “#throwback” concert. The show will feature 3OH!3, whose songs “My First Kiss” and “Don’t Trust Me” first became popular back in 2008, as well as Secondhand Serenade and his hit “Fall For You.”
This year social media and Stan State students had a huge part in what artists and genre they were interested in going to see.
ASI Special Events Coordinator Jocelyn Castellanos was pleased to hear feedback and recommendation from students on the ASI’s social media accounts.
“It was in the plans to do something different, but a lot of people from Stan suggested we do Alternative music,” Castellanos said.
Social media is a great way to make suggestions for events that take place on campus. Castellanos also suggested students join Code Red Entertainment if they are interested in volunteering for events.
Aside from the concert, StanFest weekend also includes the 6th Annual StanFest Carnival that provides a fun afternoon for the Turlock community.
The Carnival is targeted toward kids and families, but anyone is welcome to come. There will be free activities and attractions such as carnival games, inflatable obstacle courses, face paint and balloon animals for kids.
“StanFest weekend is a great way for students to start the school year on a positive and fun note and have a good time before things start to get stressful,” Castellanos said.
StanFest Concert will take place at CSU Stanislaus Fitzpatrick Arena. The doors open at 6 PM, and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. The StanFest Carnival will be held in the quad from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Parking will be free during both events. For more information on either event, students can contact ASI at 209-667-3815.
