California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State) Communication Studies professor and public relations veteran Dr. Michael Tumolo seeks to rebrand and revive the school’s Public Relations (PR) Club to provide students with useful hands-on experience for the field.
Stan State once had a PR Club on campus, but it has now fallen in numbers. Dr. Tumolo couldn’t see the great opportunity for students go to waste and has been working hard on bringing the club back on its feet, but this time for good.
When he first announced his vision of reviving the PR Club during his public relations course, interested students didn’t hesitate to contact him for more information.
For students like Taylor Lesch (senior, Communication Studies), the news of the club’s revival came as a great surprise, and was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
“I became interested in joining the club when Dr. Tumolo expressed interest in reviving it,” Lesch said.
Dr. Tumolo believes the club should go in the direction the members want it to go. He hopes to see the club grow and remain an effective student-run organization on campus. He will be providing the club guidance, but leaving the actual decisions and planning to the members of the club.
Dr. Tumolo appointed Lesch as the unofficial Public Relations Club’s PR agent. Lesch now owns the duty of informing the student body about the club, as well as acquiring the names of students interested in joining.
At the moment, ten students from different majors and concentrations have contacted Lesch interested in joining the club. Lesch hopes to see many new students once the meetings and events start happening.
The PR Club is open to any student interested in strengthening their public relations skills. Lesch has a clear goal of what he wants the club to provide for the students at Stan State.
“I want to eventually see it become a great resource for students who want to develop their own individual brands,” Lesch said.
With the mentoring and guidance of Dr. Tumolo, the PR Club will provide a great outlet of knowledge and field experience for many students at Stan State.
Any student interested in joining the PR Club is encouraged to email Taylor Lesch at [email protected] for more information.
