TURLOCK – Coming into Friday’s game the California State University, Stanislaus Warriors had the most errors (31) of any California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) team, however after committing two errors the Warriors still managed to come away with the win against California State University, East Bay 6-5.
Turlock native Eli Davis went 3-for-3, while Andy Yingling and DJ Arellano each drove in two runs in an offense that soared past a Pioneers team that has been struggling offensively while scoring the least amount of runs in CCAA (90).
“Just to keep it straight, I bunted those two runs. One on a push and the other on a drag but they looked like lasers on the books haha,” Arellano said. “I definitely felt good about the win as we played sound baseball, pitching well and executed when we needed to and resulted in getting some well earned runs.”
Byron Lemon pitched six innings, allowing four unearned runs (one earned) on seven hits, with one walk and strikeout as he picked up his second win of the season, which improved his record to 2-1.
Bryce Miller picked up only his second loss of the season for the Pioneers as he tossed 5 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, while walking and striking out two.
The transfer from West Valley College in San Jose, Anthony Gotelli came through in a clutch performance once again as relief in the seventh and threw two hitless innings, allowing one earned run as he walked three straight but kept the Warriors in the ball game.
“I feel like today I was a little inconsistent and I would’ve liked to finish the game but ended up walking some guys,” Gotelli said. “I was trying to do too much rather than just make a quality pitch, but I try not to lose sight of what my job is and that is to make competitive pitches and keep our team in the game.”
The true freshman Dustin Baisdon came in to relief in the ninth inning as he picked up his third save of the season to close out the game and secure the victory for the Warriors.
