From young children to grown adults, there was a riveting Indian culture show held at California State University, Stanislaus campus this on Saturday, Feb. 4.
The Indian Student Association of CSU Stanialus put on the show for the second time.
Different performing groups came out to Turlock from all over the Central Valley and the Bay Area. Performers from Fremont and Union City supported the event.
“We had a lot of variations of dance styles and talent which was really cool to see,” said Sunny Kang, an organizer of the show.
The dancers costumes and jewelry sparkled in the spotlight. As the music played, the dancers feet did not stop moving.
Dances ranged from Bollywood to Bhangra, and our very own editor-in-chief Jaydeep Bhatia sang a beautiful song on stage. There was also a dance group here on campus that performed a Bollywood dance that was very impressive.
Goldie Pabla, a masters student at CSU Stanislaus and one of the performers in the event, sees the show as an opportunity to display talents within the community.
“We really try and bring our local community together and showcase some of our best talent,” said Pabla.
It was truly inspiring to see all the different Indian culture dances. It was cute to see the little children getting down on stage. The parents of these children keep the culture alive in the next generation by enrolling them into these dance classes, which is amazing.
“Our culture show went great,” said Simi Gill, the president of the Indian Student Associaton at CSU Stanislaus. “We were a sold out show, and this a great way to represent cultural awareness on campus.”
