The Grizzly Rock Café had free admission, great live music and a friendly atmosphere. Quote Your Pulse Records Showcase (QYP) featured Second to last, Indian Taker, The Great West End and Table for Five last Friday night, September 21, at the Grizzly Rock Café in Turlock.
The area was crowded when you walked in, but you could weave in and out of people to get to the front of the stage. If you prefer some elbow room, you can choose to stand on the side of the stage, which still had a good view.
“We usually expect crowds of more than 100 per show and they are typically from the college demographic,” Jennings said
The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. A majority of people were standing in crowds conversing with their friends while having some drinks. People could come as they are and join any group of listeners in a conversation.
The bands that played last Friday night had more of a punk sound to them, and as some bands played people mouthed the words to their songs. The bands differed as the night went on, the first band, Table for Five, had a alternative sound compared to The Great West End which featured more of a punk sound. The bands addressed the audience in a carefree fun way, and also had the audience get involved by having them clap their hands throughout the night.
The majority of people who attended the concert were California State University, Stanislaus students, along with CSU Stanislaus college students performing on stage.
QYP offers free admission to all concerts and books performances every Friday night at Grizzly Rock, along with shows in Modesto at the Queen Bean and even far as Hollister once a month.
QYP would like to bring in as many people as possible. The band is part of a non-profit record label whose goal is to help build more of a music scene in the Central Valley.
“Through hard work and artist appreciation,” Jennings said.“We enjoy working with our roster of musicians, as well as other talent from all over the Central Valley.”
