Over 300 students sign up for tutoring servces during the first week of the Fall 2012 semester
As classes kick into high gear this semester, students are taking full advantage of the services the California State University, Stanislaus Tutoring Center offers. In the first week of school alone, 300 students came through the center to sign-up for tutoring, an increase from this time last year.
“Students are really taking advantage of it, so that’s a great thing,” Louisa Herrera, Director of the CSU Stanislaus Tutoring Center said. “It’s like chaos right now.”
Herrera said she is happy students are coming in early because it assures students are getting the help that they need.
Students can receive individual tutoring in two subjects per week, one hour per subject. Group sessions and walk-ins are also available. Currently, there are about 125 tutors in multiple subjects.
“If we don’t have a tutor for a particular subject, I will recruit new tutors,” Herrera said.
For subjects the Tutoring Center does not typically offer, the center will try and find a tutor to best accommodate a student’s needs.
Walk-in hours are available in multiple subjects including: math, chemistry, biology, accounting and finance.
The Writing Center offers tutoring for students as well. Their services include: individual sessions, group sessions, general WPST tutoring and walk-ins.
Students say they are excited to receive help from the Tutoring Center this semester, even those who have not signed up yet.
“I used the center last year and I’m going to be in there this semester for sure,” Ruben Guzman (sophomore, Undeclared) said. “I will definitely need help in biology.”
Among the services offered to students, the Tutoring and Writing Centers are both outlets for job opportunities.
The Tutoring Center walk-in hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
