On Wednesday August 30, California State University Stanislaus, (Stan State), held its regular Club and Organization fair. This semester’s fair seemed to be a success with many students who wanted to be involved in clubs and/or organizations on campus.
With booths set up all over the quad, students were easily able to access any kind of information they wished.
Brandon Maldonado (junior, Biology) was just one student attending the fair that day.
“I’m looking at different clubs, seeing what clubs fit my interest,” Maldonado said. “MECHA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/Chicano de Aztlan) seemed the right club for me because they’re directly involved with my community, the Latino community. It’s close to home.”
Agustina Roman (sophomore, Biology) was yet another student participating in Stan States clubs and organization fair. “I’m out here to keep myself busy and involved,” Roman said.
She stated that it was quite easy to get information on any club she inquired about, and booth managers were all very friendly and approachable. Although she enjoyed this semester’s club fair, she wished the organization of booths was a little less plain, and more attention-grabbing.
Sylvia Gonzales, a member of the University Student Union (USU), and Alessandra Ramirez, a member of the Associated Students Inc. (ASI), were seen attendng the fair that day as well.
Gonzales stated that her objective for the day was simply “letting people know, ‘hey come check out what we have right here and get to see what ASI and USU has to offer.'”
“We also do a lot of social media to come out to our booth and we do little prizes sometimes,” Roman added. “We think it’s exciting to get new students involved especially freshmen and transfers and also just to know that ASI and USU are here for the students, so if they have any questions they can ask the board of directors as well as any concerns they might have.”
The ASI and USU booth had root beer floats available for those who passed by.
Overall, it is safe to say that this club fair was a success. Students were able to inquire about clubs and organizations as they pleased.
Freshmen and other new students were able to get a feel on how Stan State runs events and how they care for students by giving them time to get to know all the various clubs and organizations Stan State has to offer.
