Meet the Firms is a business career fair for students to learn about the different careers in businesses like; the internships, the company, and the job offers. It is an opportunity for students to seek out the experience of what different careers are looking for in potential employees.
The interest of students attending Meet the Firms Night has increased over the last six years. The college of Business department is setting their stake high to only seek out the best job firms in the central Valley for Stan State students.
Cari Ruyamor who is the coordinator and academic advisor for the student success center in the college of business said, “Since 2013 when I first started, Meet the Firms Night has doubled in size, student attendance, and company attendance. We have 52 tables with 52 employers and 230 students registered!”
Carrie Mulgado, office manager of Balance Books, a small business located here in Turlock discusses what they are looking for in potential hires.
Mulgado said, “We have been here 6 time over the years and are always hiring and looking for candidates. We try to find recruits who need more experience and are trying to get their foot in the door with small businesses in the area. We ‘re a small fish in this big pond but we look for good people and we like to grow people and give them professional experience”.
Upper grad students who attended Meet the Firms night on Thursday March 7th, had positive statements about their experience as a student about to go into the workforce.
Lucero Barajas (senior, Business) said, “ As I am graduating, Meet The Firms helped me learn more about the firms I am interested in. This gave me preparation to know what an interview is like and a little head start to my future”.
Erica Elise Bivens (senior,Business) said, “I came to this event to dip my toe into something different than I am used to and fulfill the love that I have for marketing. I would say I feel a lot of people nowadays wanna find a job that makes the most money and they force themselves to love that job, my advice would be to find something you love to do and find a way to capitalize off of that.”
Karina Ayala (senior, Business) said, “It is really awesome that the college of business does this, with our local business they really help to promote and brand ourselves”.
