One of Turlock’s most beloved businesses is set to expand their market beyond The Central Valley this year. Dust Bowl Brewing Company will open their third location in Monterey, making it the first time the company has branched out beyond Turlock.

The popular bar and restaurant originally opened its first location in downtown Turlock in 2011, and opened its second location later on Fulkerth Rd. The new taproom will be located at 290 Figueroa Street, Monterey, in close proximity to Fisherman’s Wharf,

Dust Bowl Brewing Company’s founder and co-owner Brett Tate cited various reasons for the location. “The location is ideal. There are over 400,000 residents in Monterey County and the area attracts over three million tourists every year, so the access to customers has great potential,” said Tate.

Tate said that history played a huge role in the selection of this new location. The Dust Bowl owners also loved the connection to famous author, John Steinbeck, who often referenced Monterey in his stories.

“The building itself was built in 1874 and was the original train depot servicing Monterey,” said Tate.

For those who may want to venture out to the new coastal version of Dust Bowl Brewing Company, much will be the same in terms of set up. The inside of the taproom will offer bar seating, communal-style seating, and a lounge area; while the outside will feature a patio area including outdoor games and heaters, much like the brewery in Turlock.

In addition, Tate assured that the taproom will offer “plenty of beer to-go”, as well as “growlers, crowlers, and our packaged beers”, like the Turlock locations.  

Elias Futch (senior, Communication Studies) said, “I enjoy Dust Bowl, I like going there”, but he is hoping the new taproom offers something different than the ones in Turlock.

On the other hand, Devin McCoy (junior, Communication Studies) said that while he is underage and can’t drink yet, “I would probably end up going to that one if I was in the area.”

With an opening date planned for sometime in April, Dust Bowl Brewing Company is set to take their next step in an exciting move that will bring further popularity to one of Turlock’s most popular local businesses.
