Last Saturday, Stanislaus State Warriors women’s basketball team played against Cal State Dominguez Hills on the Fitzpatrick Arena at 5:30 PM PST.

The first quarter opened with a 5 point lead by the Warriors with an 3-Pointer made by Guard Taylor Pilot (freshman, Business Administration).

The Warriors maintained a double-digit lead throughout the next three quarters.

The first half ended with the score of 47-33 with a 14 point lead led by the Warriors.

The Warriors won the game and improved their record to 3-3 and 2-0 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The final score is 85-67.

Head Coach, Wayman Strickland, shared his thoughts about how the team won the game. “It’s very good. The most important thing is our conference record. We are moving in the right direction and this is a good team win at home to start the season 2-0 in the Conference.”

“Defense and rebounding wins championships. That Dominguez Hills team has been killing people off the boards. We did a good job of mitigating that,” Strickland said.

“Basically, our team starting to come out together now and it’s still early. We are still an early process. We did a good job defensively,” Strickland said.

Guard Lauren Toler (sophomore, Child Development) scored 20 points and was 9-14 in field goal attempts. Toler shared her thoughts about the game. “It was a big win against Dominguez Hills, that’s like the number one school. It’s really exciting to beat them.”

“I just went out there and just try to push through it…I just started to feel the momentum and I started going off,” Toler said.

Forward Lizzie Moore (sophomore, Biology) scored 14 points and retrieved 7 rebounds. Moore is 7-11 in field goal attempts.“I feel pretty good just because I started slow in the beginning but I just got to keep my confidence.”

“We are drilling as a team and I think if we keep this up we can really make a big break in the season,” Moore said.

Guard Jayla Green (freshman, Business) shared her thoughts about the game. “I think that my girls went in and give all they had today and put their hearts on the floor.”

“I think our energy in the bench really got us the win,” Green said.

The Warriors will play the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Tuesday, November 26th, 2019 at the Special Events Center in Fresno, California. The game will start on 7 PM PST.
