Tuesday, the Annual Security Report (ASR) was sent to the Stan State community by email.

 A paper copy of the ASR is available upon request by contacting the Office of the Clery Director located at One University Circle, MSR 290.

The ASR is in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). A federal statute that requires universities and colleges to be transparent with on campus crimes and keep thorough crime logs.

The report contains statistics of crimes at and around Stan State during 2016 to 2018. One of the more notable stats include that the number of vehicular thefts have lowered from eight separate incidents in 2017 to just one reported carjacking in 2018. 

Lieutenant Cheri Silveira, University Police Department Officer, said “It is important to disclose crime statistics to current and prospective students so they can make informed decisions about attending certain schools.” 

Silveira encouraged students to read the Clery because it is, “relevant and free information,” and crime trends can reveal what students need to be aware of. “If the statistics show a high rate of assaults late at night in certain areas, you may decide not to exercise or walk by yourself in the dark or not go out at all,” Silveira said.

The Clery report also provided information to prevention programs and current security plans offered on campus.
