As the seasons change and with coronavirus restrictions still being implemented to some extent, some may find it hard to find places to spend and enjoy their time. However, Dutch Hollow Farms in Modesto can help.
“Dutch Hollow has been the best job I’ve had,” says Kari Sigler, manager at Dutch Hollow Farms. “It always keeps me on my toes. I honestly never know what the day will have in store for all of us. One moment I could be selling flowers, and the next the owner could come in with 120 chickens. There is never a dull moment.”
The farm started out as an annual pumpkin patch 15 years ago. However, with the growth of the business, the farm now includes many more things to do every season and continues to add different activities each year.
At the beginning of March, they start off with tulip picking, which slowly merges into baby animal days in April. Then in June, sunflower picking begins. In October they have their popular pumpkin patch along with two craft fairs that they hold to support local businesses.
With the endless amount of things to do at the farm, many people of all ages enjoy bringing their families and friends to participate in the excitement.
On a regular day, the farm sees anywhere from 30 to 40 people. When there are special events and activities, there are about 50 to 100 people.
“I think people enjoy Dutch Hollow because they get to see a different side of agriculture. Our main purpose here is to have an environment where people can come out and have fun,” Sigler explains.
Julia Vogel is a local resident from Modesto who enjoys bringing her kids to the farm. “I enjoy that this place is a farm, and that’s something my kids aren’t really around. I like that it’s really open with lots of space, and my kids love the animals,” Vogel says.
Although many local people enjoy going to the farm, there are many people that travel to the farm as well.
Suzy Stanger is from Visalia. Stanger drove to Modesto with her son to experience the farm. She says that she learned about the farm on Facebook.
“I saw it on Facebook, so I thought it would be a fun thing for my son to come out to,” Stanger explained. The two things she and her son enjoyed while they were there were the zipline and the animals.
