I found Kristin Platts’ article “CareerReadyU Series Brings Job Possibilities Into Focus” very helpful and informative. I feel that it is so important for students to be aware of the career opportunities they have, especially after graduation. This is something I frequently think about myself, regarding how I am going to make a living after college.
Before I began Stan State, I sought out internships over the summer (none of which I obtained since I was not enrolled at Stan State yet). One part in particular that I find crucial is where Rupika Pabla and Mike Daniel put emphasis on networking. It is crucial because I feel many graduates are under the impression that just the degree alone will get them the job or career, when it most likely won’t. Yes, it will help because they developed the skills, but networking and interning — also discussed in the article — are the key to reaching that dream job.
I am very glad that this panel, CareerReadyU, is up and running. That, compared with the internships that Stan State has to offer, will definitely provide students with a lot of help and information.
In the article, it states that CRU is open to all students, but targeting soon-to-be graduates. While this does make sense, I believe they should eventually also target those earlier in the game so students can be even more prepared. The semesters go by so fast, and students need to think about career opportunities sooner than later.
