Welcome to the Signal’s new Social Justice page!
This page is our attempt at communicating the needs, struggles, and injustices that marginalized people face. With this page, we hope to accomplish and acknowledge several things.
-
We recognize at the Signal that we are on Yokut land.
-
The towns making up the Central Valley consist of people from all walks of life, people who have different racial and ethnic backgrounds, and people who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We want this page to reflect that and aim to create content for all.
-
We want this space to serve as a reference point for any student who may be looking to get involved on campus or who may need guidance in general. With the sort of database that we have created, we hope they find a club, organization, or faculty member with which they identify and feel heard.
-
We hope to inspire all Stan State students to educate themselves by reading our articles, the articles we share from outside publications, and the books highlighted on our featured anti-racist reading lists.
-
This page was created out of the Signal staff’s desire to be allies and to amplify the voices of folks who are often ignored and left unheard. By sharing their stories, we hope to spark thoughts within our readers and community conversations so we can all grow together into a community of social justice allies and activists.
This is a topic we are passionate about and, while there is still so much more to learn, we hope to not only share our insights with you, but to receive your contributions to the conversation as we grow together. We look forward to shepherding the development of this site as a resource, and, ultimately, a safe and welcoming space.
Your Social Justice editors,
