May is officially here and Stan State students are knee deep into their studies. With a few weeks left of the spring semester, midterms, research papers and group projects are all waiting to be turned in. Long nights and early mornings are common for students around campus and there is one thing that seems to be a comfort for many: coffee!
According to a research study done at the University of New Hampshire by Nicole Wilson, she discusses how 40 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds in college drink coffee every single day.
Mckenzie Wolf (freshman, Child Development) drinks many cups of coffee to get through the day.
“I can drink up to three cups a day myself. But I have friends in college who can drink more than four cups of coffee a day to get through all their daily responsibilities,” Wolf said.
Coffee is a norm for college students around the nation and Stan State students are no exception. The question of the hour is, where are students purchasing their favorite cup of coffee?
The university offers coffee options like the Starbucks in the Mary Stuarts Rogers (MSR) building. The MSR cafe is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. But with classes going later than 4 p.m. and students on the go to other places in town, they run for that caffeine fix.
Reagan Swartz (junior, Communication Studies) said his favorite location for his caffeine fix is La Mo. “In Turlock nothing beats La Mo! I love their coffee shop and restaurant, so it’s a perfect combo,” he said.

Cafe La Mo Coffee and Tea is located in downtown Turlock, 310 E Main St Suite B, and is open Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m to 6 p.m. And Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is always busy with students sipping coffee, studying or hanging out with friends.

With the university being so close to downtown and other local shops, it isn’t a surprise that students would enjoy supporting the locals. Good coffee and great company seems to be the perfect combo for students.

More than half of college freshmen are partaking in the coffee culture. Considering the amount of work students do on a weekly basis, this coffee craze is a phenomenon that appears to be more than just a way for students to re-energize.

“It’s a way for me to wind down and relax. But also definitely a social thing,” Zane Davis (senior, Agriculture/Geography) said.
With the end of the semester soon approaching and Stan State students’ coffee consumption continuing, there is no doubt that Turlock coffee places, like La Mo and Starbucks, will be filled with busy Warriors working and socializing all hours of the day.
