Veteran’s Day weekend is approaching and here at Stan State, many Veterans who have served celebrate off and on campus. Veteran’s day is this Sunday (November 11) but we will be getting Monday the 12th off to celebrate.
Restaurants and retailers are offering free meals, services, and discounts to Veterans and Active Service members here and around campus. As Carlos Mendoza (senior, Liberal Studies) said “They should be offered all the time. At least some type of military discount.” Sadly these discounted services aren’t year round but during this weekend they will be.
For these discounts be sure to bring a military ID or some other form of proof that verifies you as a Veteran or active duty service member.
If you are a Veteran or an active duty service member and enjoy Texas Roadhouse, then be sure to visit them at 3037 Sisk Road, Modesto. They open at 11 am and are offering a free lunch entree and soft drink/tea; they will have a special menu for this free lunch where you can select from 10 lunch features.
You can also enjoy a free entree of up to a $12.95 value at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewery; this offer is also only available on Veteran’s Day, the 11th. BJ’s is located at 3401 Dale Rd #483, Modesto by the mall.

Victoria Cajero (senior, Business Administration), who served in the Air Force for three years and four months, said, “I took more advantage of the discounts when I was an active duty member because that’s what I was around all the time. But I have been out since 2014 and have benefited a few times.”
If you enjoy your coffee than be sure to stop by Starbucks, they are offering a free tall hot brewed coffee to active duty service members, veterans, and spouses. This offer is offered on Sunday, November 11.

Applebee’s will have eight fan favorites that Veterans and active duty service members can choose from for a free meal on Sunday, November 11. They are on a mission in their 11th year to serve one million meals to our neighborhood heroes!
As Raul Llanos, a host at Applebee’s said, “It is important to offer these free meals to show our gratitude for them serving our nation. It is important even if it is just one day to show we do care and we fully support everything they do and did do for us. They served us, so now it is our turn to serve them.”
Some other places are also offering discounts, Great Clips is giving Veterans free haircuts on November 11; Target is offering a 10 percent discount on one storewide purchase November fourth to November twelfth to all military personnel, veterans, and your families; be sure to go here to obtain your coupon.
