The Stanislaus State Men’s Soccer Team traveled to CSUMB to face the Otters On Sunday, September 23, 2018. The men played hard but came up short.
During the game, the Otters had eight shot attempts, while the Warriors only took a total of four. All four of those were taken in the second half and only one was successful in scoring a goal.
The Otters scored first. Joseph Mayorca, of the Warriors, answered that goal and brought the game to a tie, keeping Stanislaus in the game. Scoring that goal motivated Mayorca to keep working hard and try for another goal.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, It wasn’t until the end of the game that the Otters scored again and won the game. They scored off of a penalty kick.
Mayorca said, “I think what fell short was lack of concentration after getting the equalizing goal and lack of communication.”
While the excitement and want for another goal may have been there, those emotions seemed to get inside the head of some of the Warriors.
However, despite the loss and lack of communication, there were somethings that the team did well. “What went well in the game was our ball movement and our attack of going to get the winning goal,” said Mayorca.
Coach and fans alike were hoping to return home with a victory, but that did not happen. While a coach could get stuck on the negatives, he/she could take those negatives and create some drills to combat them, but before that, to make a plan.
Head Coach, Dana Taylor said, “Our boys are learning every time they step onto the pitch. The game is brutal at times. It is all important that we hold our heads high, battle hard, and keep striving to bring our best every second of every game. Many life lessons to be learned,”
The men play again on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Cal Poly Pomona. The game will begin at 7 PM. The Cal Poly Broncos currently hold a 3-4-0 record as compared to the Warriors’ record of 3-5-0.
