The last two years that I have written and edited for the Signal have truly shaped and defined my college career. If it was not for our advisor who casually mentioned writing for the newspaper in class one day, I would not have learned, grown and succeeded as much as I have. Not to mention the amazing people I have been privileged to work with and call my friends.
I have truly put my heart and soul into improving this newspaper and I am going to miss it dearly. If there is one thing that I have learned and would like to pass on to every person who is enrolled at this college it is to GET INVOLVED. It doesn’t have to be big like joining a fraternity or sorority, but I would encourage everyone to leave their mark on our campus somehow or someway.
Whether it is joining a club, working on campus or simply meeting new people, getting involved during your college career will only enhance your time here. When I started college, I had no desire to participate in any type of activities on campus. I just wanted to come to class, graduate and get the heck out of here. After my first year, I realized that being in college is sort of miserable when you don’t apply yourself to anything.
So, when the opportunity to get involved with the newspaper arose, I took it! Never before did I see myself writing for a newspaper, but life has a funny way of being unexpected. You have to get involved to truly find what you love and what your passions are.
While working for the Signal, I have found what I love and what my passions are. No, I probably won’t go out and become the next big journalist, but through the past two years I found out who I am and what I want to be.
I am eternally grateful for the advisors, my fellow editors and my writers for giving me a great two years.
I really am going to miss spending my Tuesdays and most other days in the office. Many crazy nights, amazing memories and great people will forever be engrained into my memory from the Signal.
My hope is that everyone has an experience in college like this. It will make your college experience 1,000 times better than you could ever imagine. Go out and make your mark on California State University, Stanislaus.
