The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs as well as the Center for Excellence in Graduate Education will hold its 27th Student Research Competition on March 8.
California State University, Stanislaus will recognize the scholarly excellence and creativity of the university’s own student research projects.
The event is currently scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the Mary Stuart Rogers Building.
CSU Stanislaus is searching for the brightest undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students who demonstrate original intellectual research developments.
The competition is divided into three categories: undergraduate and master’s student qualitative research, undergraduate and master’s student quantitative research and doctoral student research. Each student has 10 minutes to present her or his research work before a jury and an audience.
Students may also present in a group in which their combined team will count as a single submission in the competition.
At the local competition and the CSU system-wide competition, the student’s presentation and written summary will be judged according to the following with 15 percent allotted to each: clarity and purpose, appropriateness of methodology, interpretation of results, value of the research activity, ability to articulate the research or creative activity, organization of material presented and 10 percent allotted to the ability to handle questions from the jury and audience.
Although there are multiple winning categories and corresponding placings, six of these competitors will be selected to move forward to the CSU system-wide competition to be held at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona on May 10 and 11.
CSU Stanislaus will sponsor all travel expenses for those selected for the competition. There will also be cash prizes for each category.
