Missing campus identity

California State University, Stanislaus doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue does it? President Joseph Sheley brought up in his annual address that CSU Stanislaus is in a bit of an identity crisis.
“We seem to have so many names; CSU Stanislaus, Cal State Stanislaus, Stanislaus State, Stan State… Who are we?” President Sheley said.
Our school’s name varies with each passing conversation; perhaps it’s time we pick a name and stick to it.
A second issue that President Sheley addressed was the need for an official school logo. As of right now, we use the official school seal to mark our territory. “We should not be using the University’s official seal as our everyday logo,” President Sheley said.
The university seal is too formal for everyday use on and around our campus, and it lacks the ability to clearly create an identity for the school. Companies will spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to create just the right logo. Why shouldn’t we do the same?
If we want to continue to compete with the top universities in the country, we must stand out from the crowd, and what better way to do that than a whole new look?
