Attending university already has its challenges and choosing classes is one of them. Another challenge is figuring out the person who is teaching that class.
Rate My Professors is a free website which allows you to search up your school and anonymously write a review about a professor.
Flor Neri (Senior, Communication Studies), a Rate My Professors user, said, “I wouldn’t say I base it solely on the ratings, but sometimes I take into consideration when people say about classes.”
Neri said that they have taken classes in which the professor received a low rating and the class ended up being nicer than what their reviews stated.
By reading the reviews about the professors, students can set their expectations for the class and also read about how students felt about the lectures in their own words.
The website is a popular tool that students use when picking out classes for each semester, as students can use it to see what their peers are saying about an instructor and their class.
Rate My Professors reviews have played a major part in some students’ class selections.
Abbey Schrader (Junior, Communication Studies) says she uses it for every professor and has chosen to not take certain classes because of their ratings.
Schrader would then explain how she used the site to find professors she liked by looking for high star ratings and reading about the amount of homework they give.
“It’s not about how much homework. If that’s all they do, I don’t really do well in classes like that,” Schrader said.
Leslie Rocha (Freshman, Child Development) uses a different criteria when looking at reviews of professors on the website, saying she looks at whether their exams are based off of group work or lectures.
