According to qz.com water has not been seen on Mars in over a billion years. The reason why this flowing water has disappeared in unknown, only speculations have been made to why the mysterious water had disappeared in the past.
 On Sept 28 NASA confirmed that water does flow on Mars today due the evidence collected from digital imaging. NASA will continue to research what this can mean for possible existing organisms on Mars.
They announced that they have found dark narrow streaks pointing downward at Hale crater, and measure to be about 100 meters in length. The dark coloring of these streaks is estimated to be caused by salt water flow
 The dark streaks that show existing water are created from the surface top water flow. Although scientists have stated that there isn’t a large amount of water expected, there is still enough to darken the soil on the surface of Mars.
Now that scientists have confirmed these dark stripe-like streaks to be left from water flow, the question of life existence on Mars starts to get more specific. They are now more convinced than ever that there is a possibility for living organisms to exist in the future upon this small planet.
Since this discovery is so rare and shocking, the region in which it was found is considered special. Although scientists are eager to find more about the streaking, NASA reports that rovers are still not safe enough to roam an area such as this. The area would be at risk for disrupting evidence, and causing possible contamination from Earth.
NASA is continuing to use their Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) to discover further details to support this new-found water flow. Scientists continue to ask what this could mean for us on Earth and how it can affect us in the future.
Life formation is the most common hypotheses after this new confirmation; however, only time will be able to tell what this water discovery will do for the small planet of Mars.
