The president of California State University Stanislaus, Hamid Shirvani, accepted the Chancellor position of the North Dakota University System (NDUS) on March 13.
“President Shirvani has accepted the position of chancellor of the North Dakota University System,” Associate Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs, Dave Tonelli, posted on Twitter.
The two finalists, Marshal Hill and Shirvani were interviewed by the State Board of Higher Education of NDUS according to the Associated Press appearing in the Inforum.
“The North Dakota Board of Higher Education voted 5-3 to offer the position to Shirvani which is an admirable vote of confidence,” Dr. Vickie Harvey, Communication Studies professor said.
The position would make Shirvani chief executive officer of the State Board of Higher Education and of the North Dakota University System. Furthermore, he would carry out the policies and directives of the Board.
The Academic Senate of CSU Stanisalus was informed about the results on Tuesday.
“In general we are optimistic because there were some disappointments that were never addressed in the past couple of years” Dr. Marina Gerson, Biology professor said.
An interim president would be chosen by the chancellor while a national search would commence, conducted by a committee gathered by the Board of Trustees-a process that takes four to six months.
“At no point would the school be without a head,” said Stephanie Thara, Public Affairs Web Communications Specialist at CSU Chancellor’s Office.
For the first time on Tuesday, the CSU Stanisalus community was informed that their school’s president was leaving.
“I would hope it wouldn’t bring any negative changes,” Maritza Saucedo (junior, Psychology) said. “They should let us know and keep us informed about what’s going on in our school.”
